Awards and agreements can give more leave. Your payroll system is the official record. An estimate, not legal or payroll advice.
How it's worked out
Annual leave = ordinary hours worked ÷ 13 (4 weeks a year)
Shiftworkers on 5 weeks: ordinary hours worked × 5 ÷ 52
Personal/carer's leave = ordinary hours worked ÷ 26 (10 days a year full-time)
For example, a full-time employee on 38 hours a week gets 152 hours of annual leave a year, so after 13 weeks they've built up about 38 hours.
Common questions

- Does leave build up while someone's on leave?
- It keeps building during paid leave, but not during most unpaid leave, such as unpaid parental leave.
- What about casuals?
- Casuals don't get paid annual or personal leave. They're paid the casual loading instead.
